Marietta, Georgia in central Cobb County, is the county's seat and largest city. If you’re a Major League Baseball fan, you also know it’s the new home of the Atlanta Braves.
With close to 60,000 residents, Marietta is the fourth largest of the principal cities (by population) of the Atlanta metro area. The origin of the city’s name is believed to be based on Mary Cobb, the wife of U.S. Senator and Superior Court judge Thomas Willis Cobb. Judge Cobb is the namesake of the county.

The largest employer is the Cobb County School District, which manages the public schools in the county, which includes all 11 of Marietta’s public schools. Lockheed Martin Aeronautical, a technology company that provides the research, design, development and manufacturing of aerospace and defense, energy, space and emerging technologies projects, employs about 7,800. The Home Depot, Inc., has 11 locations in Marietta alone and approximately 30 more in Cobb County,. It employs close to 6,700 people.

Then there’s SunTrust Park is located in the Cumberland neighborhood of Cobb County. The Braves have played their home games at SunTrust Park since April 2017. The new stadium was constructed in a public/private partnership.
If you are a history buff, the Marietta Confederate and Marietta National Cemetery are must sees. Marietta National Cemetery was originally dedicated to the thousands of Union soldiers killed in the nearby battle for Kennesaw Mountain.
